Sphere: Related ContentEmployees want to perform. Douglas MacGregor, the Harvard psychologist, taught generations of managers that how employees are treated makes a difference. Treat them like dogs and they will bark on cue but little more. Treat them as people and they will produce real results. Far too many managers think that if they show employees a little appreciation, the employees will take advantage. Well, some will, but most won’t; they will feel good about their jobs. It behooves a manager to stroke his people and his team. Recognition 101? Of course, but anyone who reads exit interviews will find that satisfied employees often walk away from satisfied employers simply because they assumed no one cared.
